The 12 Ads Of Christmas 2017
3 - Aldi
Kevin And Katie

Talking of sequels… Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot won 2016’s 12 Ads Of Christmas and was the surprise star of that year’s Christmas Run-Up. Aldi pulled him out of retirement as a snowman’s nose and continued the story as he searched for Santa, meeting the love of his life along the way. There was an added twist as Aldi decided that each ad would be heavily flavoured by classic films, beginning with Murder On The Orient Express. They even crammed in some very silly jokes which made us laugh much more than they should have done!

Definitely a contender for the 12 Ads Of Christmas number one spot, just edged out for being a sequel.

Aldi knew what they were dealing with this time around, so already had a set of Kevin the Carrot toys available to buy in their stores - the final chapter showed the Carrot family growing even further as the toys got their first official outing. Will Kevin, Katie and family return this year?

2 - M&S
Paddington & The Christmas Visitor

Now we’re into the truly special adverts, and it was a tough job to separate the top two places in this year’s 12 Ads Of Christmas. M&S were just edged into second place with this truly wonderful Paddington tie-up as Paddington 2 hit the cinemas. A delightful comedy of errors as Paddington “helps” “Santa” to deliver presents to his neighbours. Perfect. Utterly perfect. And yet it was beaten by one other advert...

Believe it or not, this advert courted some controversy. Listen very closely to the final exchange with “Santa”. Those of pure of heart and clean of mind will not notice anything untoward. For the rest of us, well… The advertising watchdog had to be called in, and eventually pronounced that “Paddington does not get sworn at.” Sometimes we really love Britain...
